DIY ALERT

Today's DIY alert started when I saw a painted burlap pillow. I took that idea and applied it to creating a unique frame piece in the nursery I designed. 

Creating a nursery space for a baby and their new parents is about combining different textures, tones, and unique pieces allowing for the little one to grow!

These frame were on clearance at Michael's for a total of $20. 

Purchase some spray paint for $3.50 that will adhere to the lacquered frame 

got spraying in the backyard

purchased 3 yards of burlap from the thrift store for 1.49...total deal

measured out and cut the burlap to each frame size

spray adhesive the burlap to the back of the frame mat 

stenciled on the babies initials using a font that is delicate but bold

using acrylic navy paint and a small brush tip I got to work

final product lounging next to my remote!

Can't wait to drop it off along with the dresser I am doing for them(more of that to come tomorrow)

Frame + Foto of the Day



The frame of the day just popped! I love it...and it will work nicely with the foto of day of my best friend Claire's older brother David and I. We are rocking a September wedding at the beach. Got to love David's pants...he was a bridesman in the wedding and the bride is a very talented artist wiped these up for him! Love the painted initials!  

Weekend Warrior

This past weekend the weather in DC was gorgeous and I was ready to get a ton completed of my "to-do" list! Project #1 create a spray booth! I have been spraying over at an art studio but realized I want my own space to be able to complete projects on my own time. So what better solution then to turn half of my parents garage into one! My Mom is extremely handy herself so she was on board and excited to be able to use it herself!

All I needed was a roll of clear tarp(I sued 3.5 ply which is a bit thicker) and my trusty staple gun! I stapled the tarp into the rafters to create my very own spray booth. Oh and after getting a shelf at Home Depot I was shocked to see how much paint I had acquired in my DC apartment.

So here is the garage before I portioned it off to make my space...as you can see my mom and I collect a lot...maybe borderline hoarding

I hung the tarp down the middle of the garage creating a simple space for my furniture

I've seen a ton of paint over at the studio but I was shocked at how much I actually had in my apartment closet

Can't wait to head over there today to get started on a dresser for a nursery. The brown dresser will be turning into a white and yellow striped beauty!

Friday Features...DIYing Danielle Oakley!

I can't help myself on a daily basis to head over and check out what Danielle Oakley is up to! This DIY project is simple and will brighten up any room! Welcome again Danielle!

I have always struggled in the art department.

Perspectives and renderings were challenging for me in design school.

Remember how I wanted a large piece of art for above my new desk?

I couldn't swallow the price of the art I loved and I wanted something Ombre.

So, I decided to paint one...

I bought a 3'-0" x 4'-0"canvas from Micheals for $24.00.

it was originally $40.00 but I used a 40% off coupon that I printed from here.

I then painted the whole canvas with gesso.

Once the gesso was dry I got started.

I took a picture of each step so you could see how the it came to be.

It was really easy and only took an hour.

I absolutely love the blue and pink together.

I am no artist but I think it turned out okay for an amateur.

And it only cost $45.00.

I can't complain about that!

Frame + Foto of the Day



The frame of the day would be an easy DIY. All you would need is a frame, white paint, cream color paint, painters tape, and a brush!

The foto of the day is of my sister Caitlin, who I love dearly(red lipstick and all!) and our mother's cousin's wife! This was taken in Baltimore celebrating my Nana's 80th birthday!

 Fun times in good ol' balmore!

Digi Paper Labels

I completed my first craft project with the digital paper and made a label for my Mom's business...check it out! Love this stuff. Check out Mostly Monograms!



So much better then real paper!

I recently discovered the tree saving digital paper! I am not an avid scrapebooker by any means but every good arts and crafts person will appreciate the new world of digital paper. You can purchase it at a low price, download it, and have it stored in your computer for any use! From cards, to invitations, to labels...the opportunities are endless...Happy Crafting!

Manly Men

I have found myself recently helping out a couple of my guy friends with apartment rehabs. I love it because it can be a challenging...they can be so easy or so difficult. Here is one edesign board I made to get the ideas together for a dining/living area in DC. Love the navys we chose for the pillows and curtains they will play well with the mahogany stained kitchen that lies adjacent to the space. 

He already has a great trunk converted coffee table and a rug we decided on that features a moracan print like the one below.
