Friday Finds...Home Decor at its best!

I had to feature one of my clients homes! Molly and I have been friends since high school and she invited me over last week to help with mixing and matching fabrics for new throw pillows and panels for her formal living room.

 

When I walked in I loved everything in site! She has a classic sophisticated approach while maintaining practicality! Check out some shots of this amazing Chevy Chase/DC home!

this is one of two arm chairs that flanked a large window in the formal living room. adding various size prints above them draws the eye upward. we are planning on making some navy velvet throw pillows with pink grosgrain greek key trim to these fabulous chairs!

 

 

the pink flows from the formal living room into the dining room seamlessly. As Molly said "even though I have four little girls I still want the things in my house to be nice!"

 

I love this because whether you are a stay-at-home mom or a working mom everyday you should be able to walk into your home and love all things surrrounding you!  

 

 

Molly did a great job creating a mud room space! Adding cubbies for each child, as well as a bulletin board to stay organized! Every home needs a spot like this one!

 

 

Check out this amazing tufted couch! Molly added the gallery wall mixing and matching various items she has collected over the years. We are currently searching out the best fabrics to create throw pillows for this couch! More pics to come!

Tired Tile to New

I was over at a client's house picking up a dresser I am rehabbing for their daughter's bedroom. While I was being given a tour of their house I stumbled upon their upstairs bathroom. It has the old 70s style tiling and as you can see it isn't the best color but its definitely not the worse!

 

 

I had to featured it today because I know many of my readers have just bought their first homes. And many of you have "to do" lists that you are able to focus on one project at a time and once the first item is completed you run through the prioritized list down!

 

 

 

These clients have their bathroom on their "to do" list but its definitely not the first thing...So I love love love how they took the yellow tile and paired it with a bold navy! The two work together very well and it doesn't look like such an eye sore!

 

 

So Notebook readers always remember that there are solutions for spaces in your home that aren't at the top of your list!

 

 



Finding Fabric for Less!

One of my clients had me over to help pick out fabrics to cover her amazing wing chairs and to  accessorize with some trimmed out throw pillows. She had already started her search at Calico Corners for fabric. She found this amazing Charlotte Moss fabric for $42.99 per yard she wants to use for the throws and I knew I could find it for less!

 

 

 

 

we are having slip covers made out of the navy velvet and the throws will be made out of the Charlotte Moss fabric as seen in both pics

 

 

here is the fabric swatch from Calico...42.99. I have them beat!

 

 

 

I found the same fabric online at a discount store for almost half the price!

 

 



 

 

 

I found this over at Decorative Fabric Direct for 27.50!

 

Thrift Tip: Always look online before committing to paying a chunk of change for the same product in-store.

Play Up the Built in

Attic spaces can sometimes be awkward with nooks and crawl spaces. In order to best utilize the space consider using built in benches!

 



 

 I was hired to sew some cushion covers for a lake house loft space that has two huge bench spaces. We decided on a nautical theme fabric print that is subtle but fun!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Not only is the fabric a perfect fit for the lake house but also is a dark navy to help cover up any major messes in a third floor loft playroom!

 

 

Must Share...

What a great repurpose of an old dresser! By removing the top drawers it goes from clothes storage to an entertainment center. Thrifting Tip: Keep and eye out for pieces like this one! Add a coat of primer/paint and it will be the next best piece in your home!

A friend from high school, Meg, just started up a throw pillow company called Throw & Co. You have to head over to her on FB and check out some of her designs!

I am so excited for this find...what an unexpected place to find a monogram! This is merely a vinyl monogram cut out which you can find online for under $6! My mom just purchased a machine that cuts them out...you could go script, block, bold, and in any color to match your home decor! Let your imagination run wild!

I have been renting the same apartment for years and it drove me cray to have the bolt siler and the door knob brass. And instead of spending my $ to create a unison look...I decide to spray all locks gold. All it took was some painters tape, plastic bags, and a can of gold spray paint!

Mirror Mirror on the wall!

I am helping a client rehab her dinging room and it is moving from a silver hue to more gold toned. So to reduce, reuse, and recycle we thought I'd just spray the mirror gold!

I used newspaper and painters tape to cover the mirror part, which of coure I failed to take of picture of for you guys! I used the same metallic gold spray paint by Rust-o-leum. It covers so smoothly!

 

What and instant difference and will look great hanging over the buffet! More pics to come!
