Oregano Walls'

Saw this pic in BHG and fell in love with the design!

Placing two identical tables with clean lines against the wall to create a work space balancing them with matching lamps...brilliant. And the use the acrylic chairs that are translucent doesn't distract the eye or clutter the space! And the chaise...can't wait to have a big enough space for one, but by using a chaise as a couch you keep the feeling of you living room open!

I could keep going with the green paint, the prints, the pop of color by adding orange drapes...love love love this room!

Caitlin Creer Interiors=Love

I read Caitlin's blog everyday and I love love love her post today
about a single throw pillow on your couch!

Although I'm a happily married woman, I'm digging the singles scene, with pillows that is.

A few months back I noticed the big fluffy pillow above at my client Sara's house.
I was instantly intrigued. A single pillow, what a novel idea.
I usually have the more is better philosophy when it comes to throw pillows, but this clean look had me changing my tune.
This look is great for a few reasons:

1. It is a great way to give a lot of impact to the space with a single pattern

2. Those of us who have kids know all the pillows end up on the floor anyway,
so this would make for quicker and easier clean up.

3. It offers a more streamlined and tailored look and allows you to show of the lines of the sofa.

4. If there is a fabric you love, but the price tag scares you this is a
great way to employ the fabric because you only need 1 yard.

After I spotted this look at Sara's house I started noticing it all over.

This gorgeous spread is from Cococozy.
I love how the magenta pillow pops against that white sofa

A lovely Ashley Hicks pattern from John's Journal.
This lady might not be single, but she's certainly the star of the show.

embracing minimalism

big and fluffy from Southern Living

Bright and cheerful from BHG.

So what do you think?
Do you like the single pillow look or do you think your pillows should have company?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Tidy it up Tuesday!

Today's Tighty It Up Tuesday feature is of an organized mud room that will help yourself or your family corral your belongings into one space!

Having a bench within the mud room provides a place to take off or put on your shoes, as well as provide a good amount of storage underneath the bench. Use indoor/outdoor fabric to cover the cushion...this will make it easy to wipe down of any mud or dirt!

Adding hooks above the bench area gives a home to bags, jackets, and hats! And bins above provides a personal space for each member of the family!!!

Happy Organizing!!!

Bathroom Before and Afters

Happy Bathroom Makeover!

Over Spring Break I took a couple days to redo my rental bathroom, which as you will see was a hot mess. With a budget of $50 I made over the room to look totally presentable to my guests!

I painted the radiator black as well as the door. I used rust-o-leum paint for the radiator so it will combat the high heat which was $8 per quart. I used Jet Black from Behr paints which cost $8.50 per quart. Check out the new pulls I added to the cabinets for $2.50 per.

New hooks went up on the newly painted door to add a more finished look. These hooks were $3.75 at my local big box store.

I added a back monogram to my already gray towels...since my mother owns a company Mostly Monograms she was kind enough to do the monograms for free!

I placed a chevron rug from West Elm for $24 as well as new hand towels for the towel rack at $3.50 per towel.

And finally I placed my shower curtain up. This was a plain old shower curtain but by adding black ribbon a large monogram really spruces it up!!!

Happy Decorating!!!

DIY ALERT!!!

A blog I follow Our Little Beehive just completed a great DIY project to create a throw pillow! Easy and simple directions!

Thanks for the inspiration Our little beehive!

Step One
Measure your pillow width and add 1.5", this will be your fabric width. I had a 20" pillow insert so my measurement was 21.5"

Step Two
Measure the height of you pillow and multiple that by 2.5, plus 4" for seams. This will be the length of your fabric. The height of my pillow was 20" so my length was 50+4=54".

Step Three
On one short end of the fabric with the wrong side facing you, fold up 1.5" and then fold 1.5" again for a nice fat hem. Pin.

Step Four
With the folded edge facing you. Sew along the hem using your presser foot as a guide to keep things straight.

Step Five
On the opposite short end fold up one half inch and fold up one half inch again for a little hem. Pin and sew along the hem as above.

Step Five
With right side facing you fold up the edge with the wider hem so the length of the fold is 3/4 the height of your pillow. So I folded mine up 15". Pin, right sides together.

Step Six
Fold up the edge with the smaller hem so that the entire pillowcase now measures the height of your pillow. The wrong sides will all be facing you now. Pin. My measurements at this point were 20" top to bottom and 21.5" left to right. Little hem is on top and fat hem is hidden.

Step Seven
Sew each side with a straight seam and a 3/4" seam allowance. Then go over the extra fabric at the edges of the seam with a zigzag stitch for extra durability. Trim off any extra fabric being careful not to snip your zigzags.

(the extra fabric at the edge before I went over it with a zigzag)

Step Eight
Fold right side out, press, and stuff with your pillow insert.

Enjoy your new pillow!
